You need a director identification number (director ID) if you’re a director of a company, registered Australia body, register foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation.

About director ID

A director ID is a unique identifier given to a director who has verified their identity with us. This will help to provide the use of false or fraudulent identities.

Who needs to apply and when

All directors need to apply for their own director ID and will keep it forever. When you need to apply depends on when you become a director.

Apply for your director ID

The fastest way to get a director ID is to apply online using the myGovID app. It’s free and you only need to apply once.

Verify your identity

Before you start your application, it’s a good idea to gather the information you’ll need to verify your identity.

Manage your director ID

Once you have your director ID, you can view, update and manage your details online at any time.
